Pershing School

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Second Trimester has ended and I have a long list of ”Straight A” 3^rd through 5^th Grade students and 6^th grade students that have made Gold or Silver Honor Roll this quarter.  58% of our 6^th grade students made Honor Roll.  We are very proud of our students and their accomplishments.  An Honor Roll certificate is awarded and medallions (to be attached to the certificate) are given each trimester Honor Roll is achieved over the school year.  Younger students can begin setting goals to make Honor Roll. 

To help your child make the Honor Roll, encourage your child to work hard.  Check to see that your child completes homework and gets it in on time.  Late work can lower the grade.  If you are concerned about your child’s progress be sure to help stay in touch with the teacher.  Your interest and concern sends your child the message that school is important and that you want them to do well. 

Most importantly, read every night.  Set aside a special time just for reading.  Take turns by having your child read to you and then you to your child.  Children are never too old to enjoy listening to a story.  Yes, even sixth graders.  When you model good reading you are helping improve your child’s fluency and comprehension while setting an example.  Then, take a few minutes to discuss the story.  This is truly quality time spent with your child, a most valuable gift.

The Week of April 19 – 23 will be Turn Off the TV Week (this includes video games).  In class the children will be discussing various ways of constructively using their time.  Help them by finding activities that you can do together.  Pershing School is also doing their part by offering a family activity that week.  Tuesday evening our PTA will sponsor Bingo and an Ice Cream Social for all families.  Do plan to join us for all the fun.

Queridos Padres de Familia y tutores,

El segundo trimestre ha terminado y tengo bastantes nombres de alumnos de 5to y 6to grados que están en la Lista de Honores (Oro y Plata). El 58% de nuestros alumnos de 6to grado están en esta lista. Estamos muy orgullosos de nuestros estudiantes y de su esfuerzo. Un certificado de honor y medallas (adjuntas al mismo) serán ofrecidas cada semestre a los alumnos que logren estar en nuestra Lista de Honores.

            Si su hijo/a no está en la Lista de Honores anímelo/a a superarse. Revise si sus tareas están hechas correctamente y sean entregadas a tiempo. Tareas y trabajos no entregados a tiempo pueden perjudicar la calificación de su hijo/a. Si tiene preguntas con respecto al rendimiento de su hijo/a no dude en hablar con la maestra.

            Es importante que usted demuestre interés en los asuntos académicos de sus hijos, léalos cada noche. Aparte un tiempo únicamente asignado para la lectura. Es importante que usted sea un buen modela para sus hijos. Los buenos hábitos de lectura los ayudarán a desarrollar habilidades de comprensión y fluidez. Después de la lectura es importante que usted discuta los aspectos sobresalientes de la historia o del cuento.

            La semana del 19 al 23 de abril será la semana de “Apagar el televisor” (esto incluye juegos de video). En las clases todos los alumnos discutirán varias maneras de emplear su tiempo útilmente. Ayude a sus hijos a encontrar actividades familiares. La escuela Pershing ofrecerá, durante esta semana, actividades familiares. Planee en asistir el martes por la noche para jugar Bingo y tomar helados!
