IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
DEAR PARENTS AND STUDENTS, time is just going by too fast! Let us think of the month of November as a time for sharing. Let us remember to share all of our talents and best academic efforts. I am asking our students to be generous in sharing kindness and willingness in being helpful with one another. INTERNET SAFETY PRESENTATION, During the week of Oct 20th Sergeant Daryl Bernard, from the Cook County Sheriff’s department, presented a program on Internet Safety for parents and for our 5th grade students. It was a very good presentation. We thank him for his time and commitment to the safety of children. According to a recent study, more than half of all American homes are now equipped with personal computers. Many of these computers have been connected to the Internet, which enables the user to communicate with a global network of businesses, organizations, and ordinary citizens. The Internet has a number of important uses, particularly for children, who can access educational information on virtually every topic imaginable. But, there is a dangerous side to the Internet. Without proper supervision, children can fall victim to on-line predators. The best way to protect your children is to learn about how the Internet works and provide guidelines for your children to follow anytime they go on-line. HOMEWORK is our focus for the month of November. Our goal is to get 100% of our students to complete their homework every night. The following are some tips that you, as parents, can do to help your children complete their homework and help us reach our goal: · Work out a homework schedule. Have your student discover which time/routine works best for them. · Try to plan a regular time each day for your child to complete his/her homework. · Have your child take a break, if he/she has a short attention span or if he has homework in more than one subject. An alarm clock or timer can help keep track of length of break. · Help your child organize, prioritize assignments. It may help to start with harder assignments first working our way down to the easiest. ATTENDANCE, at school every day is very important to the success of your children in school. Research has shown that absences in early grades are linked to achievement gaps. According to Linda Jacobson (2008) the effects of students missing 10% (ten days all year) of the school year in kindergarten can be linked to delays in reading and math scores in 5th grade. Please partner with us in making sure your child has regular attendance at school.
VETERAN’S DAY, is Tuesday, November 11th.
