Famous Explorers

 

Introduction:

The human race has been exploring the earth since before recorded history.  There are many reasons why men explored the unknown.  One reason was to become famous for discovering new lands.  Another was to discover new routes to make trading with other nations easier.   

 

Task:

You are to create a Microsoft Publisher brochure to advertise your adventure.  In today's world brochures are used by many businesses to show consumers what they do or to promote a sale.  Image yourself as the explorer you are researching.  Create a brochure that you could show possible financiers to help you get funding for future explorations or just show people what your exploration was about.  You will want to mention any new inventions that you used and how it helped in your exploration, and could help in future exploration.

Some information you are to include in the brochure are: where you traveled (or think you traveled), what route you took, what did you discover, what you brought back (if anything), who financed the expedition, did you go back and how many time.  Include a picture of your explorer, a map of the route, and any other picture you feel will promote your adventure.

 

Brochure Layout:

Cover is to include a picture of your explore, name of explore, and other information you feel will help make somebody want to read more.  

Middle should include a picture of the route and/or something you brought back from your exploration.

Last page should include a picture (but not required) and any additional information you want to include about your explorer.

The text within the brochure is up to you, be creative about how you arrange the information you are to include in the brochure.  (Tips:  place informative text with pictures that help the text, keep text short, but use correct grammar, have a classmate read your brochure for understanding and spelling errors.)

 

**As you are gathering your information take notes from the web site provided, copy any pictures that you may want to use, in your brochure, into Microsoft Publisher (make sure you copy the web address).
