Mr. Puhr

Room 222

I have worked with children in the West Town community of Chicago for the past 12 years. Most of the children I have worked with have been from Mexico. As a result, I have studied Spanish in Cuernavaca, Mexico and have traveled to various regions of Mexico to better understand the wonderful Mexican culture.

Besides working with children, I am also a trainer for the American Red Cross where I instruct classes in Child Development, CPR, and First Aid.  In addition, I am a trainer for Chicago MOST (Making the Most of Out of School Time), and I’m a national endorser for NSACA (National School-age Care Alliance). I have also taught GED, ESL and Child Development classes for the City Colleges of Chicago where I was most recently a featured math instructor on channel 20’s homework program.

I graduated from Loyola University with a B.A. and an M.P.S., and I also attended the University of Illinois where I earned my M.Ed. Between both degrees, I studied Child Development.

When I’m not attending school or working, I enjoy traveling. Besides going to school in Mexico, I studied in Rome, Italy, and I traveled across Europe and northern Africa. I have also visited over 40 of the United States. My goal is to visit every state. Other hobbies include canoeing, reading, walking my dog, and I’m a former marathon runner. In my spare time I also volunteer at Erie Neighborhood House where I am helping fundraise for various children’s literacy programs.
